The PNIT started as an idea to gather together all the ready, willing and able coaches from around the world to do battle to be the best of the best. PNIT I & II each had over 40 teams enter. The rules are sent out about six months in advance and anyone who can e-mail or snail mail a team can enter. The tournament is held at the end of the summer and is an annual event.
Coaches are allowed to assign 10,000 total points to their team, but each player must have a minimum of 200 points. This provides a slightly more robust team file and puts the emphasis clearly on the playmaking and AI programming abilities of the competing coaches.
